Honourable Dharmendar SESUNGKUR

Minister of Financial Services, Good Governance and Institutional Reforms

Sudhir Dharmendar SESUNGKUR, FCCA, is the Minister of Financial Services, Good Governance and Institutional Reforms since 24 January 2017.   He is a Member of the National Assembly since December 2014 elected as member of the ruling party, the Mouvement Socialiste Militant (MSM).

Married and father of two children, Hon. Sesungkur was born on 6 October 1964 and hails from Camp de Masque Pave on the eastern parts of Mauritius.  His schooling years were spent in the same region before he embarked on accountancy studies.  A Fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK, Hon. Sesungkur is a licensed auditor of the Financial Reporting Council and registered insolvency practitioner.   He is also a Fellow of the Mauritius Institute of Directors and Member of Mauritius Institute of Public Accountants.

Hon. Sesungkur brings a wealth of experience in the Financial Services sector.  Upon graduating, he started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers where he worked in the Assurance and Business Advisory Department for over 12 years before he moved on at Partner level of various firms of accountants such as Baker Tilly.  Until recently, he was the Managing Partner of Mazars SCRL.  Hon. Sesungkur was instrumental in bringing world-influential accounting names to Mauritius.

At the international level, Hon. Sesungkur has led various key assignments for multinational groups and projects across Africa financed by international funding institutions such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, USAID, UNDP and the Global Fund.

Although deeply committed to his career, Hon. Sesungkur spent much of his adult life in social work.  He was elected Village Councillor and had a significant contribution in the development of his natal village, Camp de Masque Pavé.  His love for service and desire to make a difference as well as a strong conviction to serve his country led to his adherence to the MSM party in 1983 where he has been an active member on the ground.  Hon Sesungkur’s party won a decisive victory in the country’s last election in December 2014 and he topped the list as 1st Member for Constituency No.10 (Montagne Blanche & Grand River South East).
